What is CleanPowerSF?
CleanPowerSF is the City’s custom-tailored Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) Program, which allows cities and counties to pool their citizens’ purchasing power to buy electricity. CleanPowerSF will enhance local control, create competition, and provide San Franciscans with an alternative, 100% renewable energy supply. With CleanPowerSF, energy customers will finally be able to choose what kind of energy they want for their homes and businesses.
Above all else, CleanPowerSF will deliver San Francisco residents and businesses cleaner energy than what PG&E currently delivers to them today.
Today, most energy customers must get their energy from PG&E; there is no choice in this matter. CleanPowerSF will inject an element of competition into San Francisco’s energy markets by giving consumers an alternative option; residents and most businesses will now have the option to choose from two energy providers – CleanPowerSF or PG&E. If customers prefer to stay with PG&E’s energy supply, they may opt-out at any time after they have been offered CleanPowerSF. Effectively, CleanPowerSF will put you in the driver’s seat of your energy needs.
With 100% renewable energy pouring into San Francisco’s electrical grid, prices will stabilize over the long term and fluctuate less than PG&E’s fossil-fuel-dependent energy supply. While CleanPowerSF’s rates will be higher than PG&E’s, CleanPowerSF will drastically increase the amount of green energy supplied to San Francisco.
Finally, with a goal of building renewable energy-generating facilities, CleanPowerSF will create local, green jobs to provide critical stimulus to our San Francisco economy. The program is an investment in the future of our community, economy, and our environment.
