A program of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, CleanPowerSF is a local solution to the climate crisis, offering renewable, affordable and accessible energy to our community. We empower residents and businesses to choose a more sustainable future, today.

How it works

CleanPowerSF buys your electricity from sources such as wind and solar, and that electricity is delivered to your home via PG&E’s existing poles and wires. All other aspects of your electricity service will remain the same, including billing. Customers are automatically enrolled in our Green service with at least 60% renewable energy. Customers also have the option to eliminate their carbon footprint from their electricity supply by upgrading to SuperGreen service with 100% renewable energy. Together, we’re moving San Francisco toward a more sustainable future.

• Stable and Competitive Rates. Our goal is to set rates once for the entire year through a public process, providing customers more rate and cost stability. a Growing movement

CleanPowerSF is San Francisco's Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program. CCA programs enable local governments to purchase and/or develop power on behalf of the local community. California’s growing CCA movement has a track record of delivering savings on customers’ electric bills, while providing more clean power to the grid. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission is San Francisco’s clean energy utility. Through its two clean energy programs, CleanPowerSF and Hetch Hetchy Power, the SFPUC currently provides more than 70% of the electricity consumed in San Francisco. To take control of its energy future, San Francisco is pursuing public ownership of the electricity grid. As an owner of the local grid, the City could deliver clean energy to all San Franciscans.
