SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) is bringing back its popular $1,000 e-bike rebate program -- and making it available to more than twice as many customers.Beginning Monday, August 18, 2025, some 55,000 income-qualified customers will be eligible for $1,000 off a new e-bike through the Electrify My Ride rebate program at participating San Francisco bicycle shops. That’s up from 25,000 eligible customers last year.

“Last year’s Electrify My Ride pilot program was a real success, so we’re bringing it back for even more customers,” said SFPUC General Manager Dennis Herrera. “Transportation is still one of the biggest sources of pollution, and this rebate helps make clean e-bike options more affordable. For people who thought owning an e-bike was out of reach, this can be the difference maker. We’ve already made big strides cutting climate pollution in San Francisco, like delivering 100% renewable electricity to hundreds of thousands of homes. Now we’re helping more San Franciscans take the next step with low-cost, clean transportation.”

Eligibility is based on enrollment in CleanPowerSF and Hetch Hetchy Power’s electricity discount programs, such as the Customer Assistance Program and CARE/FERA. Rebates are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with up to $1 million in total funding. The $1,000 rebate is applied at the point of sale, reducing the upfront cost of an e-bike, which typically starts at around $1,500.

The Electrify My Ride rebate can only be used on a purchase of a UL-certified battery e-bike that meets San Francisco’s e-bike safety standards. Participants must redeem their rebate within 60 days of receipt at the following retailers*:

• Huckleberry Bicycles (North Beach)

• Last Mile SF (Hayes Valley)

• Mikes Bikes (SoMa)

• Sports Basement – (3 locations: Bryant, Presidio, Stonestown)

• SF Wheels (Cole Valley)

• The New Wheel Electric Bikes (Bernal Heights)

• The Bike Connection (SoMa)

• Valencia Cyclery (Mission District)

• Ocean Cyclery (Ingleside)

• Warm Planet Bikes (Civic Center)

A 2024 customer survey of previous Electrify My Ride program participants showed that the program helped people in many ways, from making daily commutes easier to providing access to clean transportation. Comments like, “Forever changed my commute,” to “One of the best programs I have received while living in San Francisco” helped shape the expanded rebate and reinforced the SFPUC’s commitment to make clean transportation more accessible.

Electrify My Ride is part of the SFPUC’s broader mission to provide clean energy across all sectors and support San Francisco’s Climate Action Plan. In addition to helping more residents switch to e-bikes, the agency also supports electric vehicle charging through EV Charge SF, promotes clean home technologies through bill credits for heat pump water heaters, and more.
